It was my fortune to visit this Institute today and I spent time with Miss Tanuja Joshi and with other Senior Doctors and they explained the service of the Trust formed in the name Venu Charitable Society with sole object to carry forward the dream of Dr. Seth in the field of Serving the Blind (“Nethradan”). I have greatly felt that the Doctor with service motive with team spirit working by creating Rural & Mobile Hospitals and for final Major Treatment a Referral Hospital in Delhi. This Society is serving the course of the poor blind people to the Extent 75%. It is a must to provide more funds by Government and philanthropist to complete the project.

Eye Bank

Eye BankRotary Regency Gift of Sight Coordination & Processing Centre at A. Edward Maumenee Eye Bank is a unit of Venu Charitable Society and part of the Venu Eye Institute & Research Centre. A 24-hour Eye Bank supported by International Federation of Eye and Tissue Banks, Baltimore, U.S.A. is operational at the Institute.

It is a state-of-the-art Eye Bank where the collection, processing, preservation and distribution of donor corneas is carried out. Donated tissues can be analysed and graded properly with the help of a Tissue Specular Microscope, whether they belong to an aged person or are eyes wich have had cataract surgery. Venu’s Eye Bank is the first Eye Bank in Northern India to have acquired a Tissue Specular Microscope.

The Eye Bank also conducts eye donation awareness programmes through eye donation counselling, talks, seminars and functions like the Eye Donation Day on 8th September every year. We also work among school children to sensitise them towards eye donation by holding inter school poster painting & slogan writing competition every year during the National Eye Donation Fortnight (August 25th-September 8th).

Eye BankVenu’s Eye Bank is a member of International Federation of Eye and Tissue Bank & Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI). It has been instrumental and active in liaisoning with the Government for the required request law and other Amendments in the Human Organ Bill. It is with our effort that 1919 a 24-hour toll free number was given by MTNL to the Eye bank, initially only meant for Venu but later centralised for all the Eye Banks in Delhi.
